Burkey Construction is pleased to announce the completion of a free community clinic for Mary’s Shelter, located in Reading, PA. The new facility will provide invaluable medical support to the surrounding community.
The clinic is a collaboration between the housing and social service agency and Western Berks Free Medical Clinic, a non-profit organization based in Robesonia, PA.
As a design-build project, the newly-renovated space is uniquely suited to the existing capacity and needs of the organization. The clinic consists of two exam rooms, an office, and a waiting area with direct access to an existing restroom.
Due to building occupancy and site constraints, Burkey’s project team developed detailed logistics plans with the owner’s input. These proved crucial to preserving the day-to-day operations of the shelter while maintaining the fast-paced schedule required to meet the owner’s deadline.
As a non-profit organization operating on donated funds, the owner had a strict budget to maintain. Through the use of recycled materials donated to the shelter and by self-performing certain scope items, Burkey was able to return a sizeable credit to Mary’s Shelter.
Burkey’s Custom Services division completed the casework throughout the renovation.
With a relationship spanning nearly a decade, Burkey has proudly collaborated with Mary’s Shelter on numerous projects. Renovations to their facility’s lower level, completed in 2021, and the clinic mark the most recent partnerships.
