Burkey Construction is honored to receive three awards at the first annual Building Berks Awards Ceremony. The Greater Reading Chamber Alliance developed the awards to spotlight and celebrate economic growth through construction across Berks County. The ceremony honors all parties involved in the projects, from the banking institution to the contractor.
The Burkey projects that received awards are The Nature Place at Berks Nature, Masano Auto Park, and Ha’Penny Barn.
The Nature Place, Education: This comprehensive project allows the park and building to function together, seamlessly providing space indoors and out for visitors to play, learn, explore, and grow. This project achieved LEED Gold certification, with more than one-third of the building utilizing reclaimed and recycled materials.
Masano Auto ark, Neighborhood Revitalization: The former site of Baldwin Hardware Manufacturing, this 275,000 square-foot facility has been reborn as a top-of-the-line car dealership. The complex consists of the North set of buildings and the South, both connected by a large corridor. Burkey converted the South complex into a truck repair shop, parts warehouse, and used car supercenter. The North complex is currently vacant, but plans for a vehicle showroom and food court are in the works.
Ha’Penny Barn, Historic Restoration: Established in 1782, the Ha’Penny Barn compliments a sophisticated farm house and collection of exemplary farmstead outbuildings. This historic barn restoration preserves an oustanding example of the dwindling stock of 18th Century Pennsylvania farming. The design successfully restored the historic barn while adapting it to fit the needs of 21st Century rural life.
