Project Overview
Burkey completed two addition and renovation projects to the entrances of Alvernia University's historic Francis Hall. Built in the 1920s as an orphanage, this structure has been a pillar in the university's community since its inception.
Burkey added an atrium to the back entrance that consisted of a common area for students and a gallery featuring local artists and student work. The building's exterior was remodeled to match the new entrance, with the addition of a large patio, fountain, and stone staircase with recessed under-stair lighting.
The front entrance's existing staircase, light fixtures, and atrium were tastefully updated to a more modern design while still respecting the building's history. With these changes, the existing Welcome Center was centrally relocated.
