Project Overview

Reading Area Community College wanted to redesign the existing Weitz Hall to provide high-class facilities for its health sciences programs. This multi-million dollar renovation is in response to not only a local and regional need for expanded healthcare training, but a national one. Burkey is serving as the construction manager for this ongoing project.

All four existing floors of the building have been redefined as a premiere healthcare education facility, each containing a variety of training environments designed to mimic real-life clinical scenarios. The two lower levels contain dental assistant and phlebotomy training labs, as well as new general classroom spaces.

The building's ground floor, formerly an exposed exterior space, now features an enclosed welcome center and lounge space for students and visitors. The college's security desk and photo station are also located here.

“The decision to select Burkey as our construction management firm was easy. Their community-wide excellent reputation, flawless execution on prior RACC jobs, and, perhaps most importantly, the great level of confidence in their committment toward exceeding expectations is unsurpassed. More specifically, every single employee that has ever been assigned to RACC by Burkey has been understanding of our needs, creative in solving challenges, and willing to go above and beyond to make the project vision not just a reality, but more than we ever could have hoped for. Their preconstruction work has had numerous positive results, including mitigating change orders (there is only one so far in our $20M project and it's a reimbursement back to us). That work has also included thoughtful teamwork toward helping think through exciting details that prospective donors might have a special interest. Burkey will always be the right choice for projects that really matter.”
